Celebrate Summer In The City

Ever heard of the "lazy, hazy, days of summer", when high temperatures and the blazing sun see most city dwellers wishing for languid afternoons of lying by the pool? Well this applies to Toronto real estate as well! While there are always a certain number of house hunters padding the pavement, Buyer fatigue sets in during July and August, making it a sleepy time for real estate.

Instead, this is the time to enjoy the all the summer activities Toronto has to offer! Take a ferry to the islands, walk the boardwalk, bike the Don Valley, or head down to Harbourfront. It's summer in the city!

Lately I've been thinking a lot about how, when it comes to real estate, 'value' is rarely precise or uniform. While, economically, 'market value' is calculated by how much a person or group is willing to pay for something (i.e. a dwelling), it also has a subjective component - differing from individual to individual - formed by the addition of unique needs, personal experiences, and even emotional responses to the 'value' equation (i.e. how well the house matches your likes and dislikes or how you feel when you cross the threshold). Housing, of course, doesn’t merely fulfill our fundamental need for shelter or security; a home appeals to a wide variety of human needs that change as we enter different stages in our lives. This is why 'value' can be such a fluid construct when it comes to real estate.

July 2018 - Home Of The Month - Danforth Village

He expressed resistance to high-rise condo living as he wasn't attracted to buildings that had multiple amenities spread out throughout. Although he ultimately coveted...

Dear Urbaneer: What Is And Isn’t Covered In A Home Inspection?

While it can be tempting to forgo a property inspection in competition (or in any market conditions, really) unless you're really well-versed in structural engineering, property construction, and building components - or you've reconciled the property is really worth just land value - I caution you on forgoing this. While a home inspection doesn't cover...

Perfection On Palmerston Near Queen Street West

Given this home's history, I adore how the renovations hints at the building's past, like the sunken floor, the exposed brick between the living and dining zones, and the iron girder that runs the length of the ceiling. However, it's the contemporary elements that are truly impressive. The custom chef's kitchen is a marvel of clean lines and sparkling steel, featuring pristine modern cabinetry and high-end built-in stainless steel appliances. The wealth of windows - front and back - bathe the space in natural light, while their matte black frames provide a dramatic contrast to the light hardwood and fresh...
