January's installment of our Dear Urbaneer series is entitled, 'Why Are There Bidding Wars For Toronto Real Estate During The COVID-19 Pandemic?' From my view in the real estate trenches, I have been witnessing more and more bidding wars emerge, with prices escalating rapidly. However, bidding wars are nothing new in Toronto and have been a regular occurrence for over a decade in the freehold housing market which has long suffered from an imbalance between its limited supply and exploding demand. But within the context of a pandemic, this carries a slightly different storyline. So, what is it about COVID-19 and living through a pandemic that has created such momentum in the market to fuel bidding wars and precedent-setting prices? Read on!
Next, we share our January Homewatch News contribution, 'How To Create A Productive Work-From-Home Office During The Pandemic'. Our Homewatch series is all about what happens after and in between real estate transactions, and offers answers to all the proverbial Google searches, 'How To...'. This month, we address the millions of Canadians who are now have a blended work/home life. With lockdowns swiftly imposed in the Spring, and then the Fall, employers quickly pivoted towards widespread support to work at home. What we did see quite commonly, due in part to the speed with which this change was thrust upon us, was people cobbling together makeshift offices in their homes - from kitchen tables shared with partners and families, to corners of bedrooms or basements, to sawhorses an plywood in the garage. There is a growing need for homeowners to make their work at home spaces more functional so that they are comfortable and support productivity! Here's our advice!
The Urbaneer Team posts a bunch of blogs each week, where we share our love of all things real estate and Toronto! According to Urbaneer.com's monthly analytics, our most read blog was 'A House Is Not A Home Is This Realtor’s Valentine’s Song'. I so enjoy writing my annual V-Day piece! This year my Valentine's music pick is a song that has gripped me my entire life; although I was literally just weeks old when this song was first released, it holds a deep resonance in me. This earliest song of my childhood ties the powerful emotion of love to the rootedness of home. With its air of melancholy and the intensity of its desperate brokenness, the melody and lyrics shaped my belief that cohabitation is the ultimate representation of love. To commit to a place together represents a commitment to bond, nurture, and nest. Creating a home with your partner in life represents unconditional love. As the lyrics poetically state a house only becomes a home when there is love in it!
The second most popular post was Rennie Park: A Vital Lockdown Playground! Spending time outdoors, no matter the season, helps our mental, emotional and physical well-being. It’s just a question of planning your time outdoors safely in the winter- and during a pandemic - in addition to bundling up to beat the cold! As a rule, activities that keep you two meters apart from people who are not part of your household are recommended, in order to stop the spread of COVID-19. What is your favourite outdoor pastime in the winter? The good news is that there are a number of family-friendly outdoor activities close to home, including at my favourite: Rennie Park!
We think it's also worth mentioning this very important real estate update from TRREB, which provides a comprehensive analysis of 2020 and predicts the curve of the real estate market for 2021: TRREB Unveils ‘Market Year In Review & Outlook 2021 Report’ Alongside January 2021 Market Stats.
