January’s installment of our Dear Urbaneer series is entitled, ‘How Do I Best Rent My Toronto Investment Property During COVD-19?‘  This time around, I’m assisting a client who  is a new landlord and is finding it challenging – during COVID-19 – to find reliable tenants and ensure his investment property is profitable. there has been a seismic shift in the Toronto rental market that no one saw coming, which is creating unique challenges for landlords to maintain profitability, as the market has tipped towards an over-supply of rental product when demand suddenly declined. What had been a razor-thin vacancy rate for some time in Toronto has flipped on it’s head seemingly overnight – heightening the competition to secure a credible tenant.

Next, we share our January Homewatch News contribution, ‘How To Begin Your Downsizing Journey‘. Our Homewatch series is all about what happens after and in between real estate transactions, and offers answers to all the proverbial ‘Hot Do I…’ questions that we can think of! This month, we address those who are considering moving into smaller accomodations or, as it is better known, downsizing. While downsizing is typically the domain of the retiree (or soon to be retiree) perched at the top of the property ladder in large accommodations, with high real estate prices, a growing desire to live in proximity to amenity-rich areas and, well, the reality that COVID-19 is prompting many of us to revise our lifestyle decisions and work/life balance, a commitment to minimalist living has growing appeal across multiple demographics with varying goals for downsizing. This is where we’ll discuss how to finally get the process started!

The Urbaneer Team posts a bunch of blogs each week, where we share our love of all things real estate and Toronto! According to Urbaneer.com’s manthly analytics, our most read blog was ‘How Lessons Learned From COVID-19 Will Change Urban Planning & High-Density Living.’ While city living offers this enriched lifestyle with amenities like shopping, the arts, culture, recreation, and employment being within walking distance and minimal reliance on an automobile, the urban planning policies and high-density design principals necessary to achieve this has become problematic when it involves a pandemic, especially with COVID-19 that spreads so easily within close quarters containing a lot of people. In this piece, we talk about how these policies and practices are likely to change.

The second most popular post was Urbaneer’s Top 5 Most Popular Blogs Of 2020. As the title suggests, this is are annual reflection on the blogs that were most widely read in the previous year. They’re not neccessarily the longest nor our favourites, but happen to have the highest amount of clicks from our readers. Check out what made the top 5!

We appreciate that our post ‘FIt Is Fabulous In Liberty Village‘ was also well-read, particularly becasue – due to COVID-19 restrictions – we arent able to engage in many of the activities or take part in many of the classes featured in the blog. This is all about rekindling your desire for fit, and preparing yourself mentally and physically for when ‘normal life’ resumes once more!
