Balzac’s third café, opened in 2006, is situated in Toronto’s hotbed of high-tech, media and cultural companies — a place for the free exchange of ideas and a village within a city that preserves its links to the past while forgoing a vision of a lofty future. In Liberty Village, this is one of our fave "go-to" spots for a quick pick me up and a bite of something both delicious and indulgent!
This fabulous café, which features a prized authentic zinc bar especially brought in from Paris and stunning Art Deco floor tiles, is located in the old Irwin Toy Factory at Hanna Avenue and East Liberty Street, now part of a mixed development known as the Toy Factory Lofts. This adaptive-reuse condominium project has turned the area into a favoured spot for urban professionals to get plugged into business as well as pleasure.
We adore the beautiful, broad chalkboards which lend a vintage vibe, their stunning array of offerings to tempt the palate, and last but not least, their smoky, signature espresso - potent and very delicious!
