There's a pocket of the city that boasts housing stock perfect for young families, proximity to vibrant green space, and great schools! As its popularity grows, seasoned businesses and fledgling start-ups alike are moving in, eager to serve this gentrifying community!
So where is this dynamic locale? It's Danforth East - from Greenwood Avenue to Woodbine Avenue and beyond! Thanks to a collection of new condominums and low-rise housing already under construction, and real estate prices that are slightly more affordable than in the West end of the city, Danforth East is quickly emerging as the 'go to' neighbourhood for young, hip entrepreneurs and growing families.
What’s not to love?

One of the newest kids on the block is August Kinn – an incredibly chic lifestyle store devoted to all things baby and mom – located at 1374 Danforth Avenue. August Kinn was born from the owners shared obsession with scouting unique, well-made baby accessories. The owners have a long-standing connection to each other and the East York community. Co-owners Julie and Katie are former university housemates, current neighbours in the Danforth and Woodbine area (on the same street!), and moms of babies born just six weeks apart!
How cool is that!?

The August Kinn store is a gorgeous, light-filled space featuring an thoughtfully curated selection of baby and toddler apparel, accessories, and nursery accents. They proudly boast an emphasis on Canadian-made goods, including cozy blankets and cute totes from one of my favourite local brands, Province of Canada. We particularly love the chic and eco-friendly Play with Pieces playmat! August Kinn hasn’t forgotten about parents. Check out the “Grown Ups” section of their store and site for a loads of lovely gift ideas including jewelry, skin care and clothing. Speaking of gifts, August Kinn has recently launched a gift registry service perfect for hip parents tired of shopping at the same old big box stores.

The ladies of August Kinn have carefully curated every detail of their gorgeous store. Case in point? To the rear of the space is a cozy lounge area with a couch and rocking chair - perfect for nursing moms - and a play area to distract the littles while you shop. The lower level is a multi-purpose event space. Check out the site for a schedule of events including weekly yoga classes and play sessions for kids.
