To live stylishly while embracing the insouciant charm of history, especially when it is applied to housing, is a dream that many prospective homeowners seek in their house hunt. It’s not necessarily an item on the house hunter’s must-have list of features and amenities, but is rather a culmination of subtleties that emerge into an opportunity to live well - in the very literal sense of the word.

Welcome to Corktown, and Loft 309 at 90 Sumach Street!

Located in Corktown - a former Irish enclave of working class cottages, breweries and brickworks - this location is now one of the hottest gentrifying locations in the City. Wrapped by the $1 billion transformation of Regent Park to the north, the restoration of the Distillery District into a dynamic retail and cultural centre to the west, the reinvention of the West Don Lands to the south for the Summer 2015 arrival of the Pan Am Games to the south and hip Leslieville with its celebrated café culture to east, this neighbourhood is quickly evolving towards becoming “the” destination of hip alternative Canucks who value proximity to amenities and an attractive price point.

And we know why!

This hot new hub offers diversion galore with restaurants and bars within a short stroll.  Try the chic Carbon Bar, a converted 2-storey space once used by TV/movie studios and a hot club, for a bite or an expertly mixed cocktail.  Or head over for a bite at Weezies, Morning Glory or Jamie Kennedy's Gilead Cafe Bistro just steps away on King East. Head east to Riverside to choose from a variety of options like BBQ at AFT, Chef Lynn Crawford’s family style eatery Ruby Watchco, or even have a chill night at local gastro house Prohibition. On a Saturday, take a morning walk to St. Lawrence Market to pick up the freshest produce, baked goods and coffee or head to the Distillery District for dinner to indulge at one of my new favourites called Cluny, nestled in one of the city’s hippest historic districts. Want a spa escape? Get blissed out at Body Blitz!

Could you imagine having all of this at your door step?

The fantastic website for the Lofts at 90 Sumach says: "Erected in 1956 as a warehouse, 90 Sumach became the design centre for the beginning of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's television era. For decades the CBC's archives, studios, rehearsal spaces and workshops thrived here.  Respected artists such as Glenn Gould, Jim Henson and Lorne Michaels once worked within these walls. Though 90 Sumach was converted to live/work lofts in the late 1990's, it is still home to a diverse range of artists, designers and other creative professionals."

Once called the "Brewery Lofts" by the original developer after the surrounding Dominion building complex, this former CBC warehouse is located in the heart of Corktown, one of the city's rising stars of up-and-coming neighbourhoods. Situated in proximity to the revamped River City, the redeveloping West Don Lands, the magical historic Distillery District, and revitalizing Regent Park, it's just a short stroll to Leslieville, or the St. Lawrence Market, not to forget it's just a quick streetcar ride to the financial district and subway lines. And for those with a car, it's zoom zoom easy to get on the Don Valley Parkway or Gardiner Expressway! Without question, this formerly fringe locale will soon be in the centre-of-it-all!

The Sorbara Group converted the historic building into 100 residential lofts in 1998 and, while no longer a brewery or props warehouse, Sorbara took great pains to maintain the hard-loft concept that is coveted within the city.  The building has attracted many creative owners who, not afraid to take on a project within an up and coming neighbourhood, have made some incredible improvements within their lofts.  While many new developments have been completed within recent years, the Brewery Lofts stand as one of the only original hard loft conversions in the area. The building amenities include a rooftop garden, gym, media room, party room and visitor parking.

Boasting 14-foot ceilings, impressive concrete fluted pillars, polished concrete floors, and exposed ductwork, this spectacular open concept loft of around 1600 square feet of living space has a sun-drenched west exposure; we hope you like breath-taking views, because these windows are spectacular! This loft is well-appointed, boasting a modern chef's kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a convenient island that serves the dual purpose of prep space and breakfast bar. But the most visually arresting feature is the dramatic surround for the gas fireplace; it anchors the living space, while also serving as a stunning piece of sculpture. The snazzy mezzanine master bedroom with a slick walk-through closet and ensuite bath is uniquely segregated, not just by height, but by contemporary frosted privacy panels. Well-executed with an aim to retain its authentic loft flavour, this is ready to occupy as-is or treat it as a blank canvas to reinvent your own modern way of living. Fusing that true hard loft ambience with top notch creature comforts - and one parking spot - it doesn't get better than this!

For those seeking a concrete 'n cool space in one of the city’s hottest new ‘hoods, this is a stellar contender!

Could this be the loft for you?
