As much as we love our work, there's the occupational hazard of having a schedule opposite to most Buyers, which means there are few free weekends in the life of a Realtor.
But when we get them, we like to take full advantage!
For team member Monika - a thirty-something city-girl - a free weekend typically involves brunch. Whether it’s with her special someone or her group of friends who know her weekday whereabouts mostly through texts or tweets, Sunday brunch is a much enjoyed ritual.
Here she shares her experience at The Bristol & Bombay Pub and Restaurant in Queen West:
Our apologies to the woman on the right, who was obviously unaware we were snapping a picture. :)
Sometimes Sunday just calls for comfort food!
That's when The Bristol in Queen West becomes the perfect choice for brunch. Occupying The Great Hall space at the corner of Queen Street West and Dovercourt Road, this British pub brings unique charm to a neighbourhood where competition is fierce. Luckily The Bristol is not new to the brunch game; it gained quite the following during their days at the Christie Pits location.
This inviting British eatery offers a generous seating area, maintaining an authentic cozy pub vibe. The room has been given a British-pub makeover without making it look stereotypical or like it’s trying too hard. The Victorian wallpaper warms up the venue and the comfortable seating - leather wingbacks and velvet-upholstered chairs - entice you to take your time with your meal and maybe stay for a drink too.
The Eggs Bristol - aka Eggs Benedict - arrive with a thick slice of smoked pork loin bacon, resting on a freshly-baked scone covered with Bristol sauce (the Chef’s very own creation). This delicious ensemble is accompanied by a grilled tomato, home fries and arugula. Yum!
If you’re not into eggs and craving something sweet, Brighton Toast is the answer. This crispy French toast with vanilla infused puffed rice crisp batter is a satisfying dish for a sweet-tooth. Drizzle (or drench!) this eggy-goodness with maple syrup. Either way, it’ll taste heavenly. And don’t worry about all that sugar and carbs. This dish is served with a side of fresh fruit so it’s practically guilt-free. ;)
The Bristol definitely takes culinary pride in their dishes, a quality that, paired with the great vibe and stellar service, keeps their clientele coming back for more. Around us we see friends meeting, couples with their young well-behaved kids dining, a few guys drinking a pint while watching the soccer game, and even a group celebrating a birthday - cake, candles and all!
If brunch is not your thing, this Queen West eatery offers many other traditional staples including British-style curries, bangers and mash, and a standout shepherd’s pie that can be washed down with over a dozen different draught beers by London brewery Fuller’s. The Bristol truly is a little taste of Britain in Queen West. If you haven’t yet, this is worth discovering!
